Adult Social Care
About us - Message from our Service Director
Adult Social Care here in Cornwall has been on a significant journey of change and transformation over the last 18 months. Our integrated care plans have been accelerated as a result of the challenges of Covid 19 and we are proud to say that we are now in a really strong position to take the next important steps in the creation of a truly integrated, collaborative and supportive local health and social care system.
Cornwall is known for its beautiful coastline and stunning natural environment but, as in many parts of the country, we face an increasing demand for social workers to support our most vulnerable adult residents. We have an ageing population and areas of deprivation especially in rural locations, which often sit aside pockets of wealth.
We need you. As a progressive and compassionate Council we are confident we can tackle these big issues head on with the right people in our social work team.
We are recruiting teams on the ground at all levels including Newly Qualified Social Workers, right across our county. We have vacancies in our geographic teams in North, East, Mid and West Cornwall, and in our Hospital teams based in Penzance, Truro and Liskeard.
We can provide relocation support of up to £8,000 for eligible candidates relocating to Cornwall and are flexible with start dates. We also offer a Welcome Payment of £4,000 for qualified social workers who have completed their ASYE and are new to social work in Cornwall Council. This is paid upon successful completion of probation period.
Service Director Operations and
Director of Adult Social Services
The Adult Social Care directorate comprises of the Adult Care and Support, Commissioning and Partnerships and Modernisation Services. The Service Director for Adult Care and Support also has the Director of Adult Social Services statutory responsibilities within her remit.
During the past 12 months, we have undertaken a restructure of the senior leadership team across both Commissioning and Partnerships and Adult Care and Support. As part of this, a successful campaign was undertaken in 2020 to recruit three new Area Directors and a Chief Social Worker. In addition, a new structure for Commissioning and Partnerships will see three Heads of Service appointed in the coming months and joint posts established with Housing and the Council’s care company. An interim Service Director is leading the modernisation of business and administrative functions.
