  • Further to completing your Assessed and Supported Year of Employment, you can progress in your career via our Post Qualifying Career and Qualification pathway, supporting Social Workers in their learning and development by rewarding their development via increasing grades. Progression panels are linked to the endorsement requirements of NAAS, which allows successful candidates to put themselves forward for NAAS accreditation. 

  • All learning for social workers is supported by a full team of Practice Educators. We believe that wanting to remain in practice shouldn’t prevent you from progressing. Therefore, we have two Advanced Practitioner roles (L grade).

  • Consultant Social Workers develop a specialism in an area of child development, risk to children or area of practice and then share that knowledge and skill with colleagues through mentoring, coaching and informal supervision.

  • Principal Social Workers are directly involved in practice, holding a small caseload, supervising practitioners, facilitating team-based learning and deputising for the Team Manager.

  • Team Managers are responsible for supporting and supervising a small multi-disciplinary team with the aim of consistently achieving practice quality standards and performance targets as the basis for improving outcomes for children and young people. Team Managers have their own career and qualification pathway, allowing them to move into Advanced Manager roles (M grade).

Trainee Social Worker (TSW / SWDA)

  • Assessed against PCF Entry Level
  • Grade G/H Existing contract
  • Requires SW qualifications & completion of TSW scheme to progress

Newly Qualified Social Worker (NQSW)

  • Assessed against PCF ASYE Level
  • I Grade £28,500
  • Requires completion of ASYE Programme and PQ Foundation Stage(15 M level credits)
  • Min time frame 1 year PQ (probationary period) to progress

Early Professional Development Social Worker

  • Assessed against PCF Social Worker Level and K&SS for C&F Practitioners
  • I Grade £29,754
  • Requires consolidation and early professional development in frontline children's practice
  • Min time frame 3 years PQ to progress

Social Worker

  • Assessed against PCF Social Worker Level and K&SS for C&F Practitioners
  • J Grade £32,715
  • Requires PQ Stage 1 (60 M Level credits in total = PGCert) to progress

Experienced Social Worker

  • Assessed against PCF Experienced Social Worker Level and K&SS for C&F Practitioners
  • K Grade £34,210
  • Requires PQ Stage 2 (120 M Level 7 credits in total = PGDip)
  • Min time frame 5 years PQ to progress

Principal / Consultant Social Worker

  • Assessed against PCF Advanced Pactitioner Level and K&SS for C&F Practitioners
  • L Grade £38,978
  • PQ Stage 3 - Discretionary Head of Service agreement to undertake dissertation (180 M Level 7 credits in total = full MA) optional within role
